5 Ways to Keep Yourself Energised at Work

Work can be hard, it can be long and it’s easy to eventually feel tired out or down by the end of the day. Keeping high energy levels throughout the process – while often necessary – can be very difficult. Learning how to maintain and even boost your energy throughout the work day can be key to getting ahead in your career. In which case, what do you need to do ensure you feel as energised at work as possible?

1 – Eat Breakfast

Energy is important to our daily activities and so you need to ensure you have the right levels from the first moment right through to the last. That means eating breakfast. Yes, even though it is perhaps the easiest meal of the day to miss it is actually vitally important that you ensure you get some food before 10 am (not including a morning snack or chocolate bar). Porridge, fruit, energy breakfast bars and the like would be best as they can give you some great energy bursts both after eating and throughout the day.

2 – Get Up and Move

Sitting down all day is extremely bad for our long-term health, let alone our immediate day-to-day energy levels. Go for a quick walk around the office to get a drink (preferably water instead of tea or coffee). And one of the best things that you can do for yourself, ultimately, is to go for a daily walk during lunch. Even a 15 or 30-minute walk every day can have a huge benefit to your health.

3 – Stretch

Sometimes a simple step like stretching can be the ideal way to improve your workplace energy. Even the most basic of stretches can help to loosen up your muscles after a long day. Here are some easy stretches to put to work so you feel a little more energised during your work days:

  • Shoulder Rolls – tension resides in the shoulders, especially when you sit in an office chair all day long. Do periodic shoulder rolls throughout the day to alleviate some of this tension.
  • Hand Lock
  • Posture – not necessarily a stretch, but make sure that periodically you check that you are sitting nice and tall, feet to the ground. Posture can be everything in the workplace, both to give your body the balance it needs and to ensure you don’t develop any other pains.

4 – Take Supplements

Sometimes the right health supplements can be a really good addition to our diets, especially if you are currently struggling with energy levels or similar issues. In fact, it’s has been proven that simple vitamin D supplements can actually help to boost the energy production in our cells. This is especially the case in the winter when natural vitamin D production will be harder (especially in the UK). This is especially important if you have any sort of deficiencies, as supplementing this issue can improve your overall health and improve your energy levels for the long term.

5 – Snack Appropriately

The right snacks can be a great energy boost at key points throughout your normal workday. But, this does not include crisps, chocolate or anything else that one might consider to be ‘unhealthy snacking’. Instead, try changing these snacks for fruit, veg crisps and juice if you really need a change from water (but try to choose the drink with the least sugar in it).

Ultimately, being your best self at work can lead to promotions, better business and can really get you ahead in life. So, don’t underestimate the benefits that energy can bring to your life and make sure you try to get as much energy into your day as humanly possible! At the end of the day, being energised and productive throughout your day doesn’t have to be as big of a struggle as you might think – just be sure to put in the right amount of effort!
