5 Best Games Like Little Witch in the Woods

[ad_1]

When you think back to old school gaming, 2D pixel graphic games like Mario, Pokémon Red and Blue and Super Metroid probably come to mind. That’s most likely because they were the industry standard game design throughout the 1980s and 1990s. That was until technology improved and we saw the capabilities of 3D games like Tomb Raider take over the scene. Despite this, 2D pixel games are still popular and have never gone out of style. The latest title that’s taking over the scene is Little Witch in the Woods, and it’s motivated us to list the five best games like it.

Little Witch in the Woods was just released for early access on May 16, 2022, and fan’s already can’t get enough of its adorable style and story. The game is creating a name for itself as a pixelated adventure RPG based on a witches apprenticeship. If you like this type of game, you’ve probably already dived into it and are seeking for games to keep you entertained until its full release. That’s why we got you covered right here with the five best games like Little Witch in the Woods.

5. Stardew Valley

A long-lasting 2D pixelated title that has never lost its flair is Stardew Valley. The game was published in 2016 and remains one of the most enjoyable Indie adventure RPGs to date. The game begins with you inheriting your grandfather’s property. With just the basic necessities, you are left to build a hard-earned life of your own. However, in typical video game fashion, that’s easier said than done.

Your end game is to restore life to your community, Stardew Valley, whose way of life has been corrupted by the Joja Corporation. What begins as a tiny farm can expand in a variety of ways. You can breed animals and even cultivate crops and orchards. However, as you dive deeper, you will get more involved in mining, foraging, and combat. It is entirely up to you how you do so. You may customize your own skills and abilities, giving you an RPG-wielding experience akin to The Little Witch in the Woods.

4. Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition

A pixelated adventure game that saw a handful of awards in 2020 is Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition. It may sound strange but the game is about dying. You play as Stella, a ferry master for ghosts. Your job is to build your boat, explore the world, and return your companions to the afterlife. To do this, you must farm, mine, cook, craft, and work towards creating lasting memories upon your vessel. And since we’re working with ghosts, of course, the game has its fair share of magical abilities to help your journey.

The game is side-scrolling rather than top-down, but that doesn’t take anything away from its masterfully crafted story. Which is the title’s most notable feature. It’s a heartwarming story about learning to let go that will almost likely have you crying by the end. If you want to feel immersed in another world, much like Little Witch in the Woods, then Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition is a solid choice to turn to.

3. Starbound

Despite the fact that Starbound is a side-scroller rather than a top-down game like Little Witch in the Woods, there is a lot to admire about it. It was another pixelated game published in 2016, and it dominated the charts alongside Stardew Valley. In Starbound, you may not be dealing with any potions and witchcraft, but it has its fair share of magic since you’re surrounded by the endless possibilities of space. The game set’s you off in a damaged spaceship that must be landed on a mysterious planet in order to repair it.

The rest of the game is an RPG adventure that is entirely up to you. You can dip in and out of the main storyline, which may include some universe-saving, but nothing you haven’t seen before. Or you could explore the vast universe, uncovering ancient temples, modern metropolis, and a variety of wildly absurd planets that hold greater galactic mystery. There are a ton of heroic journeys you can find yourself in and an insane amount of ways how you can develop your character from magic to weapons. Surely if you like Little Witch in the Woods, you will be hooked on Starbounds RPG adventure.

2. Sun Haven

Sun Haven is another recent pixelated RPG that grew in popularity with its release in June of 2021. The game is similar to Stardew Valley in that you are working to build your farm and relationships with townsfolk. Or you can take the latter, which is an adventurous quest full of magic, monsters, and dragons. But that’s the great aspect of Sun Haven’s role-playing, that you can write your own tale.

Much like Little Witch in the Woods, Sun Haven is looking to immerse players in its atmosphere and tell a story. The game has an equal story length of about 40 hours, and there’s even a boss fight. Additionally, there are endless areas to explore and roles to take as you develop your new life. There are seven different player races and a skill tree with over 100 options. This means you may play as you like, whether it be a hack and slash warrior, a magical wizard with a book full of spells, or a peaceful and passive farmer.

1. Wytchwood

As far as the best games like Little Witch in the Woods goe’s, Wytchwood is right down its alley. And if you’re craving fables and fairytales, then Wytchwood will fulfill that urge. In the game, you take the role of the old witch of the woods, fitting right? From there you must explore the world around you as you work to uncover ingredients to craft sorcerous spells and cast your judgment on the game’s characters.

Wytchwood is heavily story-based, with 14 chapters across its in-depth storyline. It is only about 15 hours in length, but it’s beautifully crafted and full of fantasy and mystery. Plus, there are tons to explore, craft, and learn as the witch of the woods, opening the game up to a much more immersive RPG experience. Wytchwood could very well be considered as the brother game to Little Witch in the Woods, meaning you’ll most likely adore it.
