Beyond repair?

To start with of all, wow! The place has summer season gone? How can it perhaps be September previously???

This is only likely to be a short web site, but I just needed to share a very little repair service career that I have been performing on these days. The client at first despatched me an e-mail a several months back, as she’d been instructed by a large avenue jeweller that her sentimental gold gown ring, was not equipped to be resized. Que that very little evil bit in my mind that just desires to demonstrate them improper and clearly show that it IS doable, and voila! A person resized garnet and pearl dress ring. Certainly, it IS a sensitive ring, so she’s not heading to be equipped to put on it every working day, but at the very least it now CAN be worn, somewhat than becoming destined to sit in a box eternally!

The ring in dilemma – so beautiful!

It’s 9ct gold, set with garnets and pearls and is incredibly fragile, but surely not beyond maintenance. It is a “dress ring” and will never have been intended to be worn all of the time.

The ring shank has some sensitive engraving all around it, and since it is a very modest ring, the hallmark took up most of the offered place, so I had to pick the place to make the slice very very carefully.

Introducing the new gold

It’s all many thanks to my Dado laser welder in this article. It intended that I could incorporate in a new portion of gold and “weld” it in put without having risking heating (and ruining!) the pearls.

Cleansing up

When the new piece of gold was welded, it was just a circumstance of very very carefully cleansing up the joins.

The newer gold alloy was a marginally various color, but it’ll all mix in with a polish.

Ready to don!

Certainly, you can see the be part of if you glance closely, but at times it’s not all about totally hiding the new component. This ring was about preservation and creating it wearable yet again.

Polished and ready for several extra yrs!

A “very” very careful polish so as not to damage those people fragile pearls, or to eliminate to a lot of the character. In my view, it’s proper for an antique to look as these!
