When it comes to New Year, everyone wants to make healthier changes to start the year right. However, when you come up with a huge list of brand new things you want to do, often it’s unachievable and they don’t last long. That’s why we’ve come up with three simple alternatives to common habits to help you become healthier and feel great moving into the New Year. From walking more to drinking less sugar and considering a smoking alternative like nicopods, you have so many options to start out the year with healthier habits that hopefully you’ll be able to stick to, as they are more realistic than many other options. These will save you money, get you healthier and generally you’ll feel all the better for it.

Swap Public Transport/Driving For Walking

Firstly, you should swap public transport and driving for walking. Walking is a great way to become healthier, as it helps you to maintain a healthy weight, reduce risk of chronic diseases, build muscle and it’s also great for your mental health. So, if you currently use public transport or drive short distances, then you should try walking instead. Now, this won’t always be achievable, as some distances are just too far, however for the shorter ones, try your best. Then, when you’ve got longer journeys to complete, you should use public transport for part of it, then walk the last few stops or even get off just a stop early. This can really add up when you do this twice a day, everyday, and you’ll be surprised at how great you feel. This might mean getting up half an hour earlier or getting home slightly later, but this is a small sacrifice considering how fantastic this can be for your health. 

Swap Sugary Drinks For Water

We all know that sugar is bad for us, including our dental health, and that water is good for all elements of our health. So, a great swap to make is to remove sugary drinks and replace them with water! If you’re a lover of sugary drinks we don’t expect this to happen all at once, however even if you start by removing one sugary drink and replacing it with water, this is a really positive start. Eventually you might find you’re craving them less and incorporate more water, so just take your time and let your body adjust to how great it feels when you’re drinking more water. 

Choose A Different Nicotine Option

If you’re a smoker, then considering a different nicotine option other than smoking and vaping can make a big difference. Things like patches, lozenges, gum or Killa nicopods is a better alternative as you aren’t inhaling anything into your lungs. We understand just how difficult quitting smoking can be, so again this could be a baby steps process, however as with drinking more water once your body starts to feel the benefits of inhaling less, then you will be tempted to stick to this healthier alternative!
