New Year’s Eve 2020 Store Hours for Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Macy’s, Kohl’s

Most retailers are open on New Year’s Eve but some may be operating on reduced hours. Many have also been on a modified schedule amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Contact your local store to confirm the exact hours of operation and any safety protocols of note, such as mandatory face coverings, before visiting the venue.

Here we look at the New Year’s Eve store hours at Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Macy’s and Kohl’s.

Walmart

Most Walmart stores should be operating on a normal schedule on December 31. Check your local branch to confirm before visiting.

“Starting November 14, our store hours will be 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. [local time], unless otherwise mandated by a government agency. This will provide customers with greater options to shop for the food, medicine and supplies they need,” the company said.

Amid the ongoing outbreak, Walmart stores have implemented several safety measures, including a face covering requirement for all customers.

The stores also host “a senior shopping hour every Tuesday for customers age 60 and older who may be more vulnerable. This will start one hour before the store opens. Our pharmacies and vision centers will also be open during this time,” the company advises.

Target

On New Year’s Eve, most Target stores will close around 9 p.m. local time, while opening times vary by location. Contact your local branch for exact opening hours.

Target has also implemented various safety measures amid the ongoing pandemic, including shopping hours reserved for vulnerable guests.

The company advises: “On Tuesdays, during the first hour our stores are open, we offer dedicated shopping time for our most vulnerable guests. This includes guests over 65 years old, pregnant women and those defined by the CDC [U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] as vulnerable or at-risk. “If no vulnerable guests are waiting to shop when the store opens, and other guests are waiting to shop, store leaders may decide to open the store to all guests. Store capacity limits and social distancing guidelines apply and we’ll continue to follow state, county and city mandates related to vulnerable hours. Product limits still apply.”

Best Buy

Most Best Buy stores are expected to be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time on December 31. The company said: “Some stores may have different hours where required by local ordinances or landlord regulations. Mall-based Best Buy store hours may vary based on mall hours. For the most up-to-date hours, please review your local Best Buy store web page.”

Macy’s

Most Macy’s branches are expected to be open from 11 a.m to 6 p.m. local time on New Year’s Eve. All Macy’s stores have also introduced COVID-19 safety protocols due to the ongoing outbreak, including mandatory face coverings for all customers and staff as well as the suspension of all services that require close contact.

Kohl’s

Most Kohl’s branches are open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. local time on December 31.

Kohl’s stores have also implemented several safety measures amid the ongoing pandemic, including “reduced operating hours, which may vary by location,” the company says. Contact your local store to confirm exact hours.

“Kohl’s is offering dedicated shopping hours for at-risk individuals including seniors, those who are pregnant or have underlying health conditions every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. [local time],” the company added.
