Virginia Tech Hokies Drop an Important Game in Disappointing Fashion: 60-78

Well, sometimes you get on the bus, and you might have been better off just having stayed on it when you got to where you were going. The Hokies showed up in Syracuse, or should it be said that it doesn’t look like they showed up. With Syracuse hitting 11 of their points off of Tech turnovers (a difference of 4) and Tech hitting only 2/3rds of its attempts from the charity stripe, Syracuse took off and really never looked back too hard.

Nahiem Alleyne did have a 20 point game for the Hokies, and grabbed 4 rebounds. Only Tyrece Radford and Freshman David N’Guessan joined him in double figures at 10 each. Mike Young looked like he emptied the bench to see if someone could get something going, but none of the usual crew could score much off the bench. Tech only managed 19 points from the bench.

Meanwhile Syracuse seemed to be dropping field goals like they were laser aimed, and working inside for rebounds and second chance shots. The Orange bench was almost unnecessary with three starters in double figures, and one bench player grabbing all of their 13 points off the bench.

There isn’t much else to say. Some days you just aren’t good enough, and only one player in high double figures and not much in the way of defense is going to result in pretty much what happened in Syracuse.

It’s going to smart a while, and the #16 ranking will probably evaporate into the “votes received” category. The team is still in good shape, but the trip to Indiana is going to be a tough one. South Bend is going to be cold and dreary just like Western New York.

Mike Young has until Wednesday, Jan 27th to get the squad back into the grove that this loss probably knocked them out of. Notre Dame is still struggling, but it’s at home just like the Orange were. Tech’s going to need to get the next win to build some momentum for the next few games. There aren’t going to be any breaks coming up.
