‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Won’t Let You Preview Clothing, So A Fan Made A Fashion Magazine

Of the many (many) oversights in Cyberpunk 2077, one of the strangest is that the game lacks some pretty basic functionality in that it will not let you preview clothing items that are sold in stores.

Clothing costs anywhere from a few hundred eddies to $40,000, so it’s no small investment, but you cannot tell what it looks like on your character before you purchase, you just have the little image thumbnail to go on. The only “solution” to this has been to save, buy the item, try it on, then reload your save if you don’t like it. Not exactly convenient.

But like me, there are fellow Cyberpunk fashion connoisseurs out there and one in particular has taken this project into their own hands. A fan has made a website called Cyberpunk 404, which essentially operates like a fashion magazine and clothing database so you can see what the various clothing items look like on your V before you buy them.

The site is a work in progress, but I have to say, it’s beautifully done. It has 170 items right now, featured in a massive spread of photo mode images that give you a clear view of the clothing piece in question, though right now, the website is only for female V options. It is, however, taking submissions for male Vs, if you want to submit your own photos to  [email protected]. The prices shown, also, will vary in-game, because I’ve definitely seen different rarities of the exact same item cost different amounts, with additional mod slots and armor.

I am deeply impressed with this site, as it’s searchable, sortable by category and will be useful until CDPR actually patches in game previews of these items, but who knows how long that will take. There’s also an “inspiration” page where you can find looks you want to chase after. The creator says they will eventually also have directions to which vendors specifically sell these clothing items, but there is actually already a list of those you can find elsewhere, with images of what clothes each vendor sells. And if you don’t have the specific item you want when they go there, remember you can wait 24 hours in-game and their stock will change.

I actually think decking out your V in cool clothing outfits is one of my favorite parts of Cyberpunk 2077, the problem is just the systems in place in the game itself do not make this easy, and at least during leveling, players feel the need to throw on whatever random crap they find if it has a higher armor value. But eventually the game gets so easy that doesn’t really matter so yes, you can go around wearing more or less whatever you want eventually. And this guide will help you find the right pieces, which I think is a great fan project.

I hope to see this site grow and expand significantly in time, and I wanted to give it a boost here, as it really is great work. And of course, CDPR could always just…patch in clothing previews, which would be exceedingly helpful, but they obviously have other things on their plate for a while.
