Megan Thee Stallion Predicted She Would Be a ‘Household Name’ in Her ‘Love & Hip-Hop’ Audition Tape

Love & Hip-Hop launched and revived several careers within the music industry. Stars like Cardi B have credited the show for giving them their first taste of mainstream stardom. After seeing female rappers like Cardi and Trina on the show, it’s no surprise that Megan Thee Stallion would audition for the popular Vh1 show.

Recently, Love & Hip-Hop released Megan’s audition tape on social media. Megan predicted back in 2013, where she would be in her rap career over the next few years.

Megan Thee Stallion auditioned for ‘Love & Hip-Hop’ in college

Before she released hits like “Hot Girl Summer” and “Big Ole Freak” in 2019, Megan was a full-time college student. When she wasn’t attending Prairie View A&M University in Texas, Megan worked on her music. Megan appeared at multiple concerts and festivals with her mother, Holly Thomas. In 2018, Megan shared with Billboard how she managed to go to school while embarking on a successful music career.

“I’m still in school, and at first, I’m not going to lie, it was kind of easy because I wasn’t so booked,” Megan shared. “I only have to go to school two days out of the week, but I’m there all day long. But now that I have something to do almost every day, it is pretty difficult. So I’m just doing my best. I’m trying to tell my classmates, ‘Look y’all, send me my homework.”’

In her Love & Hip-Hop audition video, Megan shared how her mom inspired her to rap. She also joked that Thomas initially doubted her capabilities.

“It’s Megan Thee Stallion, aka the H-Town Hottie, and I’m from Houston, Texas,” she says in her tape, via Instagram. “And I’m just the best female rapper who’s popping off right now. And on top of that, I’m a full-time college student, OK? My mom was a female rapper, and one day I was like, ‘Mom, I want to be a rapper. I can rap.’ She was like, ‘uhhhh no you can’t.’ And I was like, ‘yes I can.’”

Megan Thee Stallion said she would become a ‘household name’

Although Love & Hip-Hop’s producers decided not to cast Megan for the show, they were impressed by her confidence. In January 2020, the VH1 show shared a clip from her audition on Instagram. Megan talked to the camera while standing in her kitchen. The rapper also wore an olive green shirt and a sleek ponytail.
