The Hunger Games prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes has added Jason Schwartzman to its cast.
The Fargo actor — who will lend his voice to villain Spot in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse — joins Rachel Zegler, Hunter Schafer and Tom Blyth in the upcoming film from director Francis Lawrence.
Schwartzman is set to play Lucretius ‘Lucky’ Flickerman, the host of the 10th Hunger Games and ancestor to Caesar Flickerman, the character played by Stanley Tucci in the Hunger Games franchise.

If Caesar’s fashion sense runs in the family, it is highly likely that fans will get to see Schwartzman’s Lucky in a variety of fabulous outfits and wigs when he’s on hosting duties.
Other newcomers include Max Raphael (Slaughterhouse Rulez), Zoe Renee (Black Lightning), Ayomide Adegun (The Continental), Kaitlyn Akinpelumi (Tin Star), Sofia Sanchez (Switched at Birth) and Amélie Hoeferle (Tapestry: International Stories of Inspiring Women).
The prequel follows a young Coriolanus Snow (Blyth) years before he would become the tyrannical president of Panem, as portrayed by Donald Sutherland in the previous films.
When Coriolanus is tasked to mentor Lucy Gray Baird (Zegler), the girl tribute from the impoverished District 12, he thinks he can sway the odds in her favour in the cut-throat lead-up to the games.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes draws inspiration from the novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins, with The Hunger Games author also serving as executive producer.
Recently, the prequel has announced Euphoria star Schafer as Tigris Snow, a character played by Eugenie Bondurant in Mockingjay — Part 2. As fans will recall, Tigris is a woman who chose to surgically alter her appearance to resemble a feline.
As for Schwartzmann, the frequent Wes Anderson collaborator will appear in the filmmaker’s next outing Asteroid City, leading a cast including Tilda Swinton, Jeffrey Wright, Bryan Cranston, Liev Schreiber, Tom Hanks, Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, and Margot Robbie, to name but a few.
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes debuts in theaters worldwide on November 17, 2023.
