The Don Diego Scholarship Foundation’s June 24 Gala begins 4 p.m. at the San Diego County Fair in The Center at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd. The Gala will feature a hosted wine and beer bar, gourmet food stations, a tribute to retiring Executive Director Chana Mannen, and live auction, culminating in VIP Corona Grandstand stagefront seating for country music performer Sam Hunt. Vegan Food Popup

set for Saturday

The Encinitas Vegan Food Popup is set for noon to 4 p.m. Saturday June 18 and has relocated to the grounds of the San Dieguito Heritage Museum, 450 Quail Gardens Drive. The event is planned for every other Saturday. The new venue is home to historic buildings and gardens and features shady areas to sit and play games. Senior patrol volunteers sought

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department stations in Poway and 4S Ranch are looking for adults to join the Senior Volunteer Patrol. Duties include traffic control, patrolling neighborhoods in Poway and 4S Ranch, checking on homes of residents on vacation, and checking on the welfare of residents as part of the Sheriff’s Department’s “You Are Not Alone” program. Volunteers must be at least 50 years old, a U.S. citizen or legal resident who has applied for citizenship, and have a valid California driver’s license and car insurance. Volunteers must be of good moral character with no felony convictions and attend a two-week Senior Volunteer Patrol Academy. Volunteers typically work up to five hours a week. Call (858) 232-8000. Church putting on Vacation Bible School

Families needed for Type 1 diabetes study

Families with adolescent children with Type 1 diabetes are being sought for a study by graduate student Jessica Preciado, under the direction of professor Sharon Hamill, from the Psychology Department at California State University San Marcos. This study is designed to explore Type 1 diabetes in adolescents ages 13-18 and how families manage the disease. Participants will complete a brief online survey at their convenience. All eligible participants who complete the survey will receive $5 (maximum of $15 per family). Study results will be made available upon request.
